A Well-Designed and Economical Annealing Alternative
I decided to replace my old Annealeez when its rubber wheel melted black sticky goo on my nice, clean rifle brass. This Ugly Annealer is a huge improvement, and it works flawlessly. First of all, there is nothing to melt. Second, it's highly and quickly adjustable to fit most rifle cartridges using only metric hex keys that are provided. There is an excellent YouTube video to walk you through the set-up. The speed rheostat, LED readout, and on/off button work great together in quickly finding the correct time setting for annealing different brass cases. It's also considerably quicker than my Annealeez was at loading and dumping the cases. I just annealed my first 150 cases and was very impressed with the machine's operation and the consistency of my annealed brass. It's a solid alternative that works great, especially considering the competitive price.

Affordable case neck annealing
This works. Get the temperature just right (work in a DARK room to judge the "glow" accurately) and it will do the job.Impressive, secure packaging, clever no-nonsense design, affordable cost. And watching the thing work is just plain hypnotic.

It was worth the money
High quality. This is not junk. Everything works like it should probably ran two or 3000 rounds of through. It works perfect after getting set up. It is a 10.

Works as advertised. Would recommend.
Just ran the first 100 brass. Excellent machine. I don't know if any of the others are better, but this one is great.

Possibly the best value option around
I had been considering getting an annealer and chose the Ugly Annealer after seeing Tyler Freel's review in OutdoorLife. After setting it up I did 100 308 cases and 700 556 cases in no time. For the 556 the setting was 75, just over 3 seconds per case. For the 308 the setting was 67, just over 4 seconds per case. I'm using the UL2317 torch, a smallish flame to conserve fuel, and place the flame tip at the neck - shoulder junction. I'm not securing the torch head in the supplied bracket because I couldn't get it close enough, but the torch is resting on the supplied bracket. The bottom of the fuel bottle is cradled between two pieces of foam to prevent movement.Bernzomatic says "Hot Spots: A single torch flame varies in temperature at different points on the flame. The hottest part is always at the tip of the inner flame, where the pale outer flame meets the brighter inner flame." I want to heat the neck - shoulder as quickly as possible to minimize heat transfer towards the case bottom. I monitor the process and am careful to not disturb where the flame is pointed. This is new to me so I'll probably make some changes, maybe use the taller cylinder and the supplied bottle holder. To set the time, I started fast and slowed it down until I got the desired color change.
