Sabrent 5Gbps to USB-C RJ-45 Adapter compatible with Mac Mini M1. Amazing.
We bought this Sabrent 5Gbps adapter and plugged it straight into the back of the Thunderbolt port of a Mac Mini M1. We have a 10Gbps switch connected to an 8-bay Synology NAS with a 10Gbps PCI card. I did a test beforehand using the standard 1Gbps RJ-45 connection on the back of the Mac Mini and got 115Mbps for both read and write. When I plugged in the Sabrent 5Gbps adapter it instantly recognised it, no drivers to install. I did another test with the AJA System Test Lite app and got 392Mbps write and 525Mbps read speeds. I am chuffed to mega bits with this adapter. It works flawlessly and has sped up our video-editing workflow.

It works
Plugged it into one of my Caldigit Elements hubs which is connected to my M4 iPad Pro and it was recognised straight away, the adapter is connected to Cat 6 Ethernet which is plugged into a 10Gbe switch. The switch's LEDs show a 5Gbe connection and using File Browser pro to copy movies from my QNAP NAS (4xNvme and 10Gbe) showed a big imrovement on the previous 2.5Gbe adapter, (probably about 75-85% better).Overall a worthwhile investment, no drivers needed and it just works. Now to see if anyone has written a driver for Synology (already have a 2.5Gbe on that :) )

Fantastic USB-C to 5Gb Ethernet adaptor!
This item is very good. From my testing it is compatible with MacOS and is plug and play. For Debian Linux based systems like Proxmox it requires a driver install as its based on the Reaktek RTL8157 Chipset. But once the driver is installed the speed is incredible. The device gets a little warm but it's nothing to be concerned about. For the price, its excellent!I would recommend to anyone who wants to add a 5Gb port to their system via USB C.

Feeling hot hot hot
It's amazing value for money, and seems like a well-built, solid adapter. No drivers needed on the Mac so installation is plug and play.I got this to connect my MacBook Pro to my QNAP NAS on which I store video files for editing in Final Cut Pro. I would have liked a 10Gbps adapter but they're extremely expensive and, to be honest, this is plenty fast enough. Most of the time I've had no issues at all, but on a couple of projects I've had Final Cut Pro freeze when going through footage. I don't know if that's connected to the adapter as I can still search for files on the NAS in Finder, so it's not like the connection fails, but I do wonder if there's a temporary drop-out that throws FCP a bit.I also have a 2.5Gbps adapter from Belkin which I've never had the same issue with. The reason I suspect an issue with adapter mainly is just that it gets *extremely* hot. It has a metal exterior which I assume is designed to dissipate the heat but even just being plugged into the USB port without using the connection, it's already quite hot.So I need to do more testing but for now it's a cautious thumbs up.
