Just picked up two of these to extend Global Cache ITECH flex' controlling my Epson projector with Roomie Remote.Only works if you use the correct pinouts. I took them from here:http://sgcdn.startech.com/005329/media/sets/GC98FF_Manual/GC98FF.pdfYou basically leave pin 9 out.

Good quality worked as expected

The plastic shell and RJ45 are good and solid. The wires if anything are too long but it makes assembly easy and it's all push fit.Unfortunately it came with no instructions and as it's discontinued the diagrams are not on the vendor website either. After a bit of poking around it seems to follow the Yost standard for colours and RJ45 serial.

Bear in mind that, if you want to use it to run a serial console over patch cable, that you will need at least 2 of these. The one thing that can make this product better is a link or a hard-copy of how to wire it for running a terminal through it. But even without that, once I found the pinout to use it is just as easy as pushing the correct pins into the correct holes.I combined this with the StarTech.com USB to RS-232 Serial DB9 Adapter on one end of the link, and the server on the other end, and it works like a charm!For those still searching for a wiring diagram, search for "db9 rj45 pinout" on Google

A bit flimsy, one of the crimped wires came off the crimp, but can't really fault it for the price - it did the job with some fiddling around.

Just what I needed, perfect for making custom adapters.
