Makes a really cute cake!
I bought this pan because my son wanted his birthday cake to be Steelers football themed with a football on a football field. I'm attaching a picture of the cake I made. I'm no pro, so it isn't anything spectacular, but he was happy with it, and I tried my best! Everything on the cake came from Amazon. To get an idea of the size of this pan, the football on my cake is on a 10" rectangle cake. It's fairly large. I didn't have any trouble with the pan or with the football shaped cake. It was a little hard to even out the bottom of the football before laying it on top of the sheet cake, but I managed. I just had to flip it out into my arm, then flip it back over to a plate and start cutting to level it. Then, ever so gently flip it back over so I could "drop" it on top of the football field (sheet cake). The sheet cake was made using a 10" rectangle pan I purchased on Amazon also. The Steelers logo is edible ink on sugar paper I ordered from Amazon, and the rings and Antonio Brown figurine also came from Amazon. I baked the football cake using the instructions for the cake (I used all of the batter) but I had to let it bake a little while longer simply because of the depth of the pan. The inside of the cake wasn't quite done in the suggested baking time from the cake box. Next time, I will either set the over temp just a little lower than suggested and bake it about 5-10 minutes longer, or I will only use 3/4 of the cake batter instead of putting all of it in the football pan. But, for the depth I wanted the cake to be, I had to use all of the batter, so I'll most likely just lower the oven temp by 25 degrees or so and bake it longer. Like I said, I'm no professional, but the football cake was fairly simple to make and to ice. I used chocolate frosting for the football itself and I used white icing for the laces and such piped through a bag and flat tip. Any questions, just ask!

Worked well...
At the end of the day I successfully made two cakes the right shape (ultimately for a rocket ship birthday cake) that came out easily using this pan. In that respect this should get 5 stars, but I have deducted one since the pan itself seems quite thin and flimsy compared with all others that I have (tho admittedly this is the first 'novelty' shaped one I have ever purchased and maybe they're all like that??). I made two cakes and the second one came out a little lopsided since I had not noticed the stand bit that keeps it level had bent a little sometime during washing/drying/refilling. It did bend easily back into place and really made no difference so perhaps I'm being picky. For easy and clean removal of the cake from the pan I used solid Crisco to grease the inside liberally and then floured the greased tin. So long as you do this and make sure no shiny bits show through I can't imagine you'd have problems getting your cake out. I also left the cake to cool almost completely in the pan before removing it, 1) to ensure it came out cleanly, 2) to help avoid any issues of it falling apart and 3) to retain as much moisture in the cake as possible, since it had a long bake time to get the center cooked.I did use a box cake mix so, even though it took around twice the suggested cooking time, the cake actually still turned out ok. It wasn't at all too dry and not at all crumbly. Sliced and ate well enough for a 3-year old's birthday cake. :)Overall I'd certainly recommend this for anyone wishing to make football shaped cakes/bread, or rocket ships, animals etc... with a bit of imagination the uses are surprisingly numerous!

Easy to use
Easy to use, but once it’s frosted, you can’t see the laces or lines on the end of the ball.

Awesome Football Pan!!!
First and Ten Football Pan is awesome! It did the job for my football kick off / birthday party! You cant go wrong with this pan!The shape of this pan is perfect for any football themed festivities! Perfect for novice bakers with easy to use instructions.Quick Product First Look : Aluminum football size pan, pretty wide and long enough to make a good size cake, easy to read instructions.Pros: easy to read instructions, bakes well with any cake mix from scratch or box, a good size pan, football shape, easy to put icing or fondant and easy to clean up as well.Cons: the aluminum pan is a bit thin and can easily dent if your not careful, not a pan to set and forget; i find that you must monitor the baking processes for best resultsRecommendations for best results: every oven operation is different, some bake quicker or slower so knowing your own oven is the key for a successful bake. I turn my oven temp down to 325 to allow the additional time that is required to bake thru which is about 50 minutes. 1) only use vegetable shortening like Crisco and spread it the entire pan. 2) sit the pan on a long flat baking tray and on the middle shelf of the oven. 3) make adjustments when needed. 4) cool the pan down for about 15 to 20 minutes before transferring cake. follow walton's instructions and adjust when needed you should not have any problems with a successful bake.I plan to make more football cakes since its football season! I extremely happy with my purchase!

Football cake pan
I was expecting a Wilton product to be top rate. This is NOT the case. Pan is poor quality. It is flimsy and not sturdy. Pan does not stay upright while baking and batter spilled. The reviews said this would happen and I tried supporting it with aluminum foil. Unfortunately this is the only football cake I could find. This product needs to be redesigned.

Banged up but it did the job
It came dented and is pretty flimsy but for the price, I can’t expect much more. Or still worked well.

Nice quality.
Nice pan, easily cleans up. Cooks a bit unevenly because of the shape, but just leave it in a bit longer to cook the middle. Very easy to decorate and turns out to look authentic. I will use this again during football season but it was a great pairing with the helmet shaped cake pan for a kid's football themed birthday party. You can also make two of these and "glue" them together with frosting to make a completely 3-D football cake, set on an angle with frosting to hold it up (and cut part of the bottom of assembled cake flat for it sits at an angle).

Perfect shaped cake tin.
Did just the job!Was a bit worried about thickness given previous reviews but it was really sturdy. No it wasn't level but this was easy sorted by bending the stand outwards a little until it sat level. The only reason it would fail to come out the tin is if you haven't greased it properly beforehand- not the fault of the tin! I used plenty of butter and had no issues. As you can see I used it for the body of a rocket cake and it was perfect!
